Department of Social Science
Department of social science is a teaching and research organ in the field of Marxism Theory and Education in ethics. It has had a long time to mature. Its long history can trace back as early as1958, when the college was established. Its original name is Teaching and Research Section for Marxism and Leninism, mainly undergoes the teaching task of Marxism and Leninism. Then in 1984, to meet the requirement of Regulations on Initiation of Education in Communism and Ethics among Colleges and Universities, issued by Ministry of Education, the college like all the others in China added Education in Ethics into the curriculum to change One Course into Two Courses. With increase of staff and teaching allotment, the college decided to rename it Marxism and Leninism Department. Eight years later, thanks to the teachers in “Two Courses”, the department built up Law Field, and shoulder some teaching tasks of fundamental courses, hence it attained a name as Social Science Department. With another five-year development, in1997, the license for Bachelor degree was granted to Law Faculty. And the quantity of at-school students expanded to such a reasonable extent that the school board changed again the name into Social Science Section, to which, meanwhile, a Law Faculty was added. All these were aimed to and has done a lot to recruit law students and facilitate employment for them. At the beginning of 2002, the college carried out such positive administration adjustments as the establishment of Law Faculty based on the former Law Department, name changed into Social Science Department from Social Science Section. The Law Faculty and Social Science Department shared the same office, but, in this August, complied with the demand of Provincial High Education Work Committee and new circumstances, the college made a decision that the former Law Faculty and Social Science Department was divided into two completely independency, each with its name unchanged. But Social Science Department took full charge of teaching, administrating “Two Courses” and researches. It is an important action to strengthen the “Two Courses”. This department now has 24 teachers, including 22 are full time, among them, 10 are associate professor, accounting for 45.4% out of the 22 full time teachers; 7 lecturers, 31.8%; 5 assistant 22.8%. There are 15 with master degree and 1 would-be doctor, sharing 68.2% of the total full time faculty. What is more, the college employs14 part time teachers, among whom there is 1 professor, 10 teachers of deputy senior professional title, 2 lecturers and 1 assistant. Therefore the department has 36 teachers including the part time teachers, a picture of relatively harmonious structure of title, age and knowledge being formed.
