The Sports Department derives from the Sports Teaching and Research Section. With its foundation in 1996 with the approval by the Personnel & Education Division under the State Forestry Ministry after its foundation reports being submitted by the College Party Committee through study, this department is mainly in charge of the teaching task of public sports subject to all the students of the college, the training of representative teams, sports activities and sports competitions for students and the mass, and other work, and it is a teaching unit under the direct jurisdiction of the college. At present, it owns 27 staff members, of whom there are 7 deputy professors, 7 lecturers, and 10 assistants. Among its teachers are 1 judge at national level, 10 national grade 1 judges, and 20 person-times awarded the titles of “ Excellent Teacher” and “ Advanced Individual” at national, provincial, civic or college level. Trough years, the party and administration leaders of the college have been carrying out “Work Regulations of School Sports” carefully and sparing no efforts to carry on the sports teaching reform of college, achieving a certain effect. The “Sports Teaching and Research Section” was successively awarded the titles of “ Excellent Teaching and Research Section” of the college and “ Excellent Teaching and Research Section” of Hunan Province; the “Sports Branch ” was successively awarded the titles of “ Advanced Party Branch” of the college and “Advanced Party Organization” of Zhuzhou City;  the “Sports Course Construction ” was successively awarded the titles of “ Excellent Sports Course School ” of Hunan Province and “ Excellent School ” of the whole country ;  the college was successively awarded the titles of “Excellent School ” of Hunan Province and “ Excellent School ” of the whole country for the appraisal of its carrying out of “Work Regulations of School Sports” . In the respect of scientific research:  The Sports Department obtained one item of second prize of excellent teaching achievement at provincial level, published over 50 theses, and directed or participated in the compilation of 5 textbooks. In the respect of representative team construction: The College Male Volleyball Team gained the championship for two times and the second place for one time in the national soft volleyball title matches for college students; the College Track-and-Field Team won a total of 8 gold, silver and copper medals in the national track-and-field title matches for college students. In the respect of  mass sports: The students have been insisting on group morning exercises through years; the mass sports activities have become common practice; the college was successively awarded the titles of “Excellent School with Five Items Reaching Standards ” of Hunan Province and “ Advanced Unit for New Mass Sports Activities” by the State Forestry Bureau.
